From motion to demonstration
Pick up objects, move them, and demonstrate a task by hand. UMI, short for Universal Manipulation Interface, gives data collectors a handheld interface for manipulation demonstrations.
Add your camera and project-specific recording and processing workflow to prepare demonstrations for robot-learning research.

In the box
One unit contains the complete gripper assembly. Choose a pair to receive two identical units.
You provide: camera, lens, recording software, calibration and data processing.
Before your first recording
Check mount fit, lens requirements and recording settings against your chosen collection pipeline.
Verify marker IDs and calibration. For two-handed capture, check synchronization and marker assignments.
Inspect the footage and processing output before collecting a larger dataset.
A few practical answers
UMI stands for Universal Manipulation Interface. It is a handheld gripper used to demonstrate object manipulation. With a suitable camera and processing workflow, those demonstrations can support robot-learning research and data collection.
No. You receive the assembled gripper and camera mount. Cameras shown in reference photographs are not included. Confirm your camera, lens, physical mount and recording-pipeline requirements before ordering.
Two identical assembled grippers. A pair is hardware for two-handed collection; your workflow may require distinct marker assignments, calibration and synchronization. These setup steps are not included.
Compatibility depends on your camera, calibration, marker configuration and processing software. This is collection hardware, not a plug-and-play robot controller. Contact us with your setup before ordering if you need a fit check.
Recording assignments have their own equipment and eligibility requirements. Buying a gripper does not include paid tasks, automatic app integration or acceptance into a collection program.
