Wake vs Ego4D: collection partner or research dataset?

Ego4D is an existing egocentric research dataset and benchmark suite. Wake collects and structures workplace recordings around buyer requirements. Choose Ego4D when its coverage fits; discuss Wake when you need a specific task or setting.

When Ego4D is the stronger starting point.

Choose an existing research dataset when your question matches its coverage and annotations. Shared benchmarks make it easier to compare an experiment with published work. They also let a team inspect data before organizing new collection.

When to discuss a Wake collection.

A team may need a particular workplace, tool, sequence or failure mode that is difficult to find in an existing release. A collection brief can make those requirements explicit before footage is recorded.

Access does not establish intended use.

Review the official terms for the specific dataset version and intended use. A publicly accessible recording is not automatically covered for every training, redistribution or product use. For Wake work, discuss rights and consent requirements as part of the collection scope.

Questions, answered.

Is Wake an alternative to downloading Ego4D?

They serve different needs. Ego4D provides existing research data and benchmarks. Wake works with teams to scope workplace recordings and annotations for specific requirements.

Does Ego4D include robot teleoperation data?

Do not assume an egocentric video release provides your robot’s commands or state. Inspect the modalities and annotations of the exact release against your training objective.
