# How to get paid to record videos of everyday tasks

You can get paid to film yourself doing everyday tasks through video data collection projects. The work usually means following a recording brief and submitting footage for review. It is different from earning money through social media views.

For first-person projects, the camera shows what you are doing: your hands, tools and the objects you work with.

## Find a project before you film

Start with a specific assignment. A folder of videos you recorded on your own may not meet a buyer's needs.

[Wake's contributor page](https://wake.inc/contribute/) describes paid recording of familiar physical tasks, with instructions in the app. Before accepting any project, confirm:

- Whether your location and payout method are eligible.
- What action, viewpoint and equipment the brief requires.
- What counts as approved work and how payment is calculated.
- How the video may be used and who can appear in it.

Do not buy a camera or begin a long session until those points are clear.

## Make your first recording manageable

Choose something you already do safely, such as folding clothes or organizing objects. Your first goal is to understand the process.

**Prepare the space.** Move private documents and identifying information out of view. Get permission to record in the location and avoid including other people.

**Check the frame.** Secure the camera so both hands are free. Make a short framing check, then watch it to see whether your hands and objects stay visible. Follow the assignment's required viewpoint.

**Record the whole task.** Show the beginning, the work and the finished result. Do not add music, cuts or speed changes unless requested.

**Review before submitting.** Check visibility and completeness. Save the task reference so you can match the submission to its terms.

These are practical recording tips, not a replacement for the project's instructions.

## Count all the time involved

Payment may cover accepted footage rather than every minute you spend working. Include setup, reviewing, uploading and any repeat recording. Our [pay-rate guide](https://wake.inc/blog/first-person-video-pay-rates/) shows how to calculate earnings for your time.

Wake participation is limited to North America, South America, Europe and Central Asia. Country-level payout support still needs checking. See the [contributor requirements](https://wake.inc/contribute/).

## Questions, answered.

Do I need followers?

Data collection assignments are based on the requested recording, rather than your audience size. Check the brief instead of building a social following first.

Do I have to show my face?

First-person footage focuses on the task, but face and audio requirements vary. Confirm them before accepting, and check mirrors and reflections.

Will every video earn money?

No. A submission must meet the project's acceptance terms. Available work and approval are not guaranteed.
