# How much can you earn filming first-person video? Real rates explained

There is no single pay rate for filming first-person video. Public offers use different conditions, and an advertised recording rate is not necessarily what you earn per hour of your time.

Start by checking the payment unit, then count all the work involved.

## What public offers actually say

These are advertised offers checked on October 28, 2026, not verified contributor earnings or a market-wide average. Amounts are in US dollars.

| Provider | Published offer | What needs checking |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Wake](https://wake.inc/contribute/) | Starts at $10 per approved hour | Task requirements, approved duration and payout eligibility |
| [World Data Co / Record Your Day](https://recordyourday.com/) | Advertises $10–$30 per hour for recording daily work | Applicable project, approval terms and what its hourly unit covers |

The second listing is included as a public comparison, not an endorsement. We have not independently verified its payouts. Neither advertised offer establishes how much work you personally will receive.

Do not compare a per-video payment with a per-hour rate until you know the required video length and total effort.

## Calculate your effective hourly earnings

Use this calculation:

**Money received, minus work expenses, divided by all hours spent.**

Include time spent reading the brief, setting up, recording, reviewing, uploading and repeating work. Exclude unpaid submissions from money received, but include the time they took.

Here is a worked example using Wake's published starting rate. It assumes exactly one hour of footage is approved at $10, no additional costs and no bonuses. It is arithmetic, not an earnings forecast.

| Approved footage | Total time spent | Gross payment | Gross earnings per hour of your time |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 hour | 1 hour | $10 | $10.00 |
| 1 hour | 1.5 hours | $10 | $6.67 |
| 1 hour | 2 hours | $10 | $5.00 |

Equipment, data-transfer costs, payment fees and taxes can reduce what you keep.

## Four questions to ask before recording

1. Is the rate based on accepted footage, a completed task or logged work time?
2. What happens if only part of a submission is accepted?
3. Are there limits on eligible duration or repeated tasks?
4. When and how can I receive payment in my country?

Save the answers with the assignment.

## Questions, answered.

Does one hour of recording guarantee one hour of pay?

No. Approval and the assignment's payment rules determine eligible work.

Can I turn a published rate into monthly income?

Only after you know your actual available work, acceptance and total time. Multiplying a headline rate by a full-time schedule can be misleading.

Is a more expensive camera likely to pay for itself?

Not automatically. Confirm the task requires it and calculate the cost against work you can realistically secure.
